He was a child when he saw his home crumble in the flames. Now he’s come to reclaim it.
Twenty years ago, a bitter rivalry left Walter Forrester homeless and fatherless, driving him and his mother to seek refuge elsewhere. Driven out again by a temper he can’t control, Walter turns his steps homeward with only the clothes on his back and a hunger for revenge.
One thing he knows: no one can be trusted.
Join Walter and his unlooked-for friends Ralph, Gilbert, and Agnes as they fight to recover a heritage near extinction and learn what it means to forgive.
About the Story
I basically just made this up on the spot. Right now. As I typed it.
However, the roots of this story have been growing for a while. See, one of these characters (I’m not telling who) makes an appearance in another WIP (work in progress) of mine set about forty years later. So, it is remotely connected, and there are ways this story will come into that . . . but this won’t be packed with spoilers (sorry).
Medieval England has always fascinated me. The battles and history, the way power swayed back and forth between different groups, and the stark contrasts in how people in the different social classes lived.
I also find it strikingly easy to draw comparisons between the knights and castles of old, and the ongoing battle between good and evil we are still in today.
This is a little taste of some of the thought that is going into my other books.
But don’t expect it to be perfect! Like my novella, this isn’t going to have the time and effort put into it that my full-length books have.
In fact, this is very off-the-cuff.
How It’s Going to Work
This is a new venture for me, serializing a story as I write it. 😅
Every week, on Tuesdays, you’re going to get a new installment of Crumbling Castles.
If you know someone who would like this, share it with them! They have ONE WEEK to subscribe in order to catch the first installment live. Anyone who joins after that will have to play catchup, I’m afraid. (But still send it to them anyway!)
I haven’t decided whether I’ll paywall it or not. Depends on the reception of this intro. Leave a comment so I know if you want to read it!!! I would love to meet more of my readers in the comments.
Why must I decide whether to paywall or no? While I would love to make all of my writing free, the reality is that I am a full-time writer and independent publishing professional. Writing takes time, and when I’m working on my own writing, that is time away from writing I could do for others . . . and get paid for. I’ve got to make ends meet, guys.
If you want to support my writing, please seriously consider hitting that subscribe button, free or paid, and share with your friends—but know that paid subscribers do get extra perks (like the chat, story clips, and more articles), and will have even more when my novels are released. 😁
I can’t wait to see you here again next week for the first installment of CRUMBLING CASTLES!
Added later, the first installment is here! ⤵︎
Until next time,
Blessings!
~Lexi
Psst! Did you know I have a medieval fantasy in the works too? You can read the overview here, and I’ll be dropping teasers and background info for my paid subscribers from time to time as well!
Risen from the Shadows
Long years ago was Ranaleth founded, the Home of Light; and as its capital was Nalethein built, the Heart of the Sunrise, whose pinnacle is Leran Telmas, the Tower of the Strong. For generations, the people of Ranaleth dwelt in peace, but at last—alas!—they went astray.
I am very excited to read this. I too, am very fascinated by Medieval England (most Medieval history, actually), and I like working with fantasy settings similar to the Medieval Period. (I also enjoy the Viking Era which predated the Medieval one... But that is for a different conversation 🤪)
Since I am broke, I won't be able to afford... Anything... if you put it behind a paywall, I'll just have to wait a while to read it. (Read: Until I get cash, I cannot become a paid subscriber. I am hopelessly broke, and doing odd jobs is not cutting it. XD)
*Ah! Leaps and dances* This sounds so very good Abigail!! I'm very excited to see all that you'll do with it!
I can't wait to read this story!!
